NGV Numbers Climb In Peru

Srisen Energy Technology Co.,Ltd | Updated: Dec 28, 2017

According to the latest statistics made available by Infogas, Peru’s data website under the control of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Production and Transportation and Communications, the number of natural gas vehicle conversions in the country has reached 0.25 million at the end of November 2017. There are also 305 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations, up from 284 at the end of 2016.

Infogas records 253,318 converted vehicles in the country, of which 249,996 are reported to be ‘active’. Growth has been stimulated by the price differential with other fuels, with more than 10,000 vehicles added so far this year. It is possible that growth since the start of 2016 will reach close to 30,000 units.

The Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin) reports figures that show users of CNG can achieve good savings compared to other fuels: 57% compared to gasoline, 50% compared to diesel and 35% for LPG.

The significantly better environmental credentials of CNG compared to mainstream fuels and the cost differential means the growth of natural gas vehicles in Peru is set to continue into 2018 and beyond.

An article published by Peru’s RPP Group cites Cálidda, a distributor of natural gas that supplies the different gas stations in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, which claims 1.4 million tons of CO2 have been avoided in the period between 2005 and the beginning of this year.

According to Osinergmin’s projections, it is expected that at least 5 million tons of CO2 will be mitigated in the 2016-2025 period.
